More flooding is likely along the Missouri River after heavy rains and flooding upstream in South Dakota.

The National Weather Service says some moderate flooding is likely this week along the river between Sioux City, Iowa, and Rulo, Nebraska.

Some parts of South Dakota received as much as 7 inches of rain over two days.

The Missouri River is expected to crest later this week after rising significantly.

Officials in Dakota Dunes are telling residents to relocate as soon as possible.  They are concerned the sanitary sewer system will be forced to shut down.  Plus, main roads into the community and low-lying areas could get inundated with water.

Downstream the flooding may be worse because several levees that were damaged by flooding in the spring haven't been repaired yet.

The floodwaters may even cover parts of Interstates 680 and 29 and force some road closures.

The Sioux City City Council is expected to consider a proposal today for removal of a World War II chapel and airmen's housing project on Sioux City airport land.

The chapel anchors the entrance to Sioux Gateway Airport and is one of the last standing remnants of the wartime air base built for B-17 bomber training.

City documents say the two parcels containing the chapel and housing were developed with uses not compatible with operations of the airport.

The chapel would be moved off airport property, and a nonprofit group would take ownership and maintain it at a new location as a memorial and make it available for event rentals.

However, the nonprofit group has not been fully formed and would need to raise money to take over ownership of the chapel.

The group interested in the chapel is not financially able to accept the housing project, which could face demolition.

And, a town hall meeting is underway in Palo Alto County with Republican Congressman Steve King.  It started at noon at the public library in Ruthven.
